# Two programs. One charger.

> EV Initiative runs two special programs for charger owners. The Host Program pays the owner of a charger 90% of what guests pay for the hours the charger would otherwise sit idle, free of subscription for homeowners and residents and $8 per charger per month for buildings and commercial sites. It runs everywhere on the network. Canadian Carbon Credits is Canada only. Electricity delivered to a vehicle is a transportation fuel under Canada’s federal Clean Fuel Regulations and generates carbon credits, and an individual charger owner cannot claim those credits themselves, nor can the utility, because only a registered charging network operator can. EV Initiative is that operator: it pools the charging, generates the credits, sells them, and pays the charger owner a share of the realised value with a floor rate per kWh underneath it, in cash to a connected bank account. A deposit buys the charger outright, earning starts on the first session, and the full deposit is returned once charging reaches the milestone. Credits accrue on free sessions and on the owner’s own charging because they come from energy moved rather than money collected, so a Canadian charger earns even if no guest ever plugs in. EV Initiative has not yet published the per-kWh rate, the share or the floor, because the credit value is still being reconciled with its aggregator.

### What are the Special Programs?

Two. The Host Program, which pays the owner of a charger 90% of what guests pay for the hours they are not using it. And Canadian Carbon Credits, which is Canada only, and which turns the electricity a connected charger delivers into carbon credits that we sell and split with you.

### Can I get paid to charge my EV at home in Canada?

Yes, both ways at once. You open your charger to guests and keep 90% of what they pay, gross, with no subscription of any kind. Separately, the electricity you deliver generates carbon credits under the federal Clean Fuel Regulations, including on your own charging and on free sessions. You opt into a share of that credit value by joining the Canadian Carbon Credits program.

### Can a home EV charger earn carbon credits in Canada?

Yes, but only through a registered charging network operator. Electricity delivered to a vehicle counts as a transportation fuel under the federal Clean Fuel Regulations, and an individual charger owner cannot claim those credits themselves. Neither can the utility. EV Initiative is a registered operator, so we pool the charging, generate the credits, sell them and share the proceeds with you. That is the mechanism behind every "get paid to charge at home" offer in Canada.

### Is this available outside Canada?

No. Canadian Carbon Credits is Canada only, because it runs on Canadian regulation. There is no equivalent federal program in the United States, so a US charger earns charging revenue and nothing else. The Host Program, where you keep 90% of what guests pay, runs everywhere on the network.

### Do I earn credits if nobody else ever uses my charger?

Yes. Credits come from energy moved rather than money collected, so your own overnight charging counts, and so does every session you give away free. That is deliberately unlike the installer commission, which counts only paid sessions.

### What does it cost a Canadian homeowner to run?

Nothing. No subscription, no per-charger fee, no listing fee, and no charge to participate in the carbon program. Your own charging is always free.

### How is this different from the other Canadian programs?

Three ways. They pay a flat rate per kWh and keep whatever the credit actually sells for without disclosing the spread, while we pay a share of the realised value with a floor underneath it. One of them pays quarterly in gift cards through a redemption catalogue, while we pay cash to your bank through Stripe. And the one that gives a charger away takes an irrevocable assignment of every rebate you were entitled to, voids the warranty if you leave, and locks the hardware so it cannot be moved to another network. We take no rebates, we do not lock the hardware, and you can leave whenever you want.

### What is the deposit, and how do I get it back?

The deposit buys the charger, so the hardware is yours from day one rather than borrowed. You earn from the first session. When your charging reaches the milestone, the full deposit is returned to you. The milestone exists so the program goes to people who will actually use the charger.

### What happens to my deposit if I leave early?

The deposit is the only thing at risk in this program, and it is at risk only until you reach the milestone. Your rebates, your hardware and your accrued charging revenue are not affected. We do not void warranties and we do not lock the charger to our network.

### What will I earn per kWh?

We have not published the rate yet. The share and the floor are set against what credits actually sell for, and we are reconciling that value with our aggregator. We would rather publish nothing than publish a number we have to walk back. Register your interest and you will have the rate the day it is set.

### How much do I keep from a guest?

90% of what the guest pays, gross, before card processing. EV Initiative takes 10% and absorbs the payment fee out of it. Payouts land in your own bank account through your connected Stripe account, with no invoicing and no monthly request.

### When do I actually get paid?

Charging revenue settles to your bank on the normal payout cycle. Carbon earnings accrue in the app with every session, then pay out once the credits are sold and settled on the regulator’s cycle, in cash to the same account. Nobody in this category can pay daily on carbon credits, and anyone saying they do is describing something else.

### Can the rate change after I join?

It can, because credit prices move. The rate in force when a session starts is the rate that session earns, so a change never reaches backwards into charging you have already done, and we tell you before a change takes effect.

### Can I run both programs on the same charger?

Yes, and that is the point. The credits come from every kilowatt-hour you deliver, and the Host Program pays you 90% of what guests pay for the ones they bought. Two streams, one charger, one app. No other Canadian program does both.

### Who files the credits?

We do, as the registered network operator, working through a carbon credit aggregator. Operators of our size do not file their own credits: an aggregator handles registration, reporting, verification and market sale.

### What do I need to start?

A charger that speaks OCPP, which is most units sold in the last five years. A Stripe account, created through a guided flow in the app, which takes about fifteen minutes. And a price and hours, changeable any time. No installer visit from us, no contract term, and no way to be locked in.
